The Resource Gallery functions as an open-storage display of selected artefacts from the Museum’s collections and their beginnings. Objects are organised to accommodate their material categories and classifications.
Highlights include classical sculptures, miniatures and modern paintings donated by the Indian Government to the University of Malaya in 1959; and objects collected by early university curators in Singapore including Michael Sullivan, William Willetts and Lu Yaw forming the seed collection of the University. They form the categories of South and Southeast Asian art, Southeast Asian ceramics and Chinese ceramics.
The Resource Gallery is open to the public during the Museum’s opening hours.
Included alongside the Resource Gallery is the Scroll & Paper Study, which is only accessible for viewing of artworks by request. This controlled space facilitates the viewing and study of paper and related materials. It houses the Museum’s collection of classical and modern Chinese ink scrolls, prints, watercolours and photographs. Highlights include 19th century drawings and watercolours, in particular, works by Charles Dyce; woodblocks and woodblock prints by Singaporean artists from the 1950-60s including a large selection by Lim Mu Hue; sketches and drawings by Jimmy Ong and a corresponding collection of personal photographs from the mid-1980s to early 1990s.
