The Lee Kong Chian Collection

The Lee Kong Chian Collection came from the Lee Kong Chian Art Museum established at Nanyang University in 1970. It was principally a collection of Chinese materials that included bronzes, jades, ceramics and classical ink paintings spanning 8000 years of Chinese history, from the Neolithic period to the Qing Dynasty. In 1980, with the formation of the National University of Singapore, the collection was merged with the former University of Singapore collection.

Since 1997, the collection has expanded to reflect the complexity of Chinese modern and contemporary culture. Recent additions to the collection include contemporary ink works by Singaporean artists including Lim Tze Peng, Ho Chee Lick, Ling Yang Chang and Hong Sek Chern, reflecting new research approaches to contemporary Chinese art practice in Singapore.
